Christmas time. A time of magic and wonder, especially for kids.
This year, Christmas was a little different. Normally, we wake up early, pack up presents and head to my parents' place, spend the day there with family opening gifts, having brunch, naps, and finally turkey dinner. This year is was an electronic Christmas. We used Skype to chat with our families and watch each other open gifts. We called grandparents who have no computers to say thank you for gifts. We napped in our own beds, and had pancakes for dinner. It wasn't until after all the hub bub was done, that I looked through my camera rolls on my phone and my SLR, and realized I had literally only ONE photo for Christmas. This is quite unusual. I usually have a bunch. It was a photo of our tree just before we opened gifts.
It made me think about Christmases past, and how I would have the memories of my kid opening her gifts, of family together. But, due to the pandemic, since we couldn't all be together, the cameras fell to the wayside as we helped our kid open gifts, find the ones that were hers and keep the garbage out of the way. It also made me think of how many memories I'm technically part of, but not, as I'm the one behind the camera. I'm rarely in front. 2021 is going to be in about 48 hours and who knows what it will hold. Vaccines are on the horizon, but exact timelines are still unknown. Hopefully Christmas 2021 will be full of family, photos, and cheer. I'm happy that this year, despite the pandemic, I've been able to grow Sugar & Sage Photography. When 2019 left us, I had plans to make 2020 the best year possible for Sugar & Sage. Unfortunately, when Covid hit, and everything shut down, I had to think quickly. I wasn't sure what I'd be able to provide. After some thought, I realized I could still do outdoor sessions. Because of that, I've been able to provide Covid-friendly sessions to a number of clients (physical distancing, mask-wearing, hand sanitizer on site, to name a few). I look forward to being able to provide more of these sessions throughout 2021, physically-distanced, of course! Slots will be open for families, kids, couples, and announcements such as maternity or engagement. Email to book, or check out the portfolio to see what I can do!
